National poetry month begins

Write a “secrets” poem...

Covert Ops

I am a man of many words
which shelter me
from others’ verbal swords,
and it is plain to see
the benefits of meditation
if one would hide out, be free,
from life’s daily consternation.
Then there’s my aging,
now quite so plain,
my place to avoid engaging
with youth (and youthful pain).
I’ve left behind regrets,
just now coming to grips
with my imperfect secrets,
my verbal and physical slips.
I’m savoring what I have,
lost the need for more things,
found the secret to happiness,
(someone else’s joy, let it ring).
I know it’s wise to bury both past and
future, enjoy the now, be kind.
As in a haiku I once attempted:

Tomorrow will not
change me, fall has come and gone,
winter’s close behind.

Hush-Hush

I have a secret.
I’m in love with
my best friend.
Think she knows?
Hope so.
