August Continues

What you learn
after you know it all
makes all the difference.

I've reached the point
where I can't make
anymore new old friends.

in the morning,
before the world wakes.

the life I imagined.
This one is
far better.

to eternity,
this life
certainly is short.

At a monastic retreat,
the sound of
chanting monks
will fill one's heart.

I avoid the news,
it still sneaks in.
Choosing love over hate,
I weep.

If one does work
only for money,
they can never
live long enough.

It's an honor,
a true blessing,
to know people
throughout a lifetime.

I don't like pretension,
don't even like the word.
I prefer phony.

I recall becoming
an old man, but I thought
it would take longer.

Cats are cute and cuddly.
That is, they are
when they're not
being insane.

The Runs of August

Teachers change
our world.
We should conspire
to aid and abet them.

In my life,
despair and longing
have felt the same
as greed and clinging.

I don'tr chase
happiness.
I prefer to
sneak up on it
from behind.

Sit quietly,
and just watch
where your mind wanders.
It will amaze you.

I accept
that every experience
is one which
I must need.

I don't fear
negative thoughts.
I also don't
ask them in
for coffee.

It's unhealthy to say,
"that's just the way it is".
It need not be so.

Don't know
how much life is left,
but hope to
make a difference
with it.

A thankful heart
gives birth
to at least
a thousand
beneficial joys.
