Day 3. Stop and/or Don’t Stop

Day 3 of poetry month...write of stop and/or don’t stop.

A Non-stop Series of Seventeen’s

I get happy endings
in life when
I don't stop
before they arrive.

—————————

Today, I plan
to really listen,
So, don’t stop talking.
Please, go on.

—————————

Today,
I’ll stop talking,
simply sit quietly.
I find it useful.

—————————

Call me an idiot.
Don’t stop doing that.
I like an empty mind.

Day 2. A first person voice poem-ekphrastic

She Said, I Said

She said, she’s magnificent.
I said, yes, she has a
wonder filled heart
and it finds beauty
in the oddest places.
You are like her.
So Am I.
No wonder we like her.
She said, I wish I’d written that.
I said, you might have.
She said, I see you think that,
probably really mean it, too.
I’m sure I can’t, but
it’s nice of you to say.
I wonder what you’ll say
I could write tomorrow.

National poetry month begins

Write a “secrets” poem...

Covert Ops

I am a man of many words
which shelter me
from others’ verbal swords,
and it is plain to see
the benefits of meditation
if one would hide out, be free,
from life’s daily consternation.
Then there’s my aging,
now quite so plain,
my place to avoid engaging
with youth (and youthful pain).
I’ve left behind regrets,
just now coming to grips
with my imperfect secrets,
my verbal and physical slips.
I’m savoring what I have,
lost the need for more things,
found the secret to happiness,
(someone else’s joy, let it ring).
I know it’s wise to bury both past and
future, enjoy the now, be kind.
As in a haiku I once attempted:

Tomorrow will not
change me, fall has come and gone,
winter’s close behind.

Hush-Hush

I have a secret.
I’m in love with
my best friend.
Think she knows?
Hope so.

Life With Dignity

Life in our homestead
works way better for me
than working for money.

Those times when I think
I know everything are when
I can learn nothing.

————————-

There’s much that I
can not do now.
Barbara will
tell you that is true.

————————

When I think of doing
community service,
first I think of home.

————————

I avoid hateful news.
I do miss some things,
like snark to snark combat.

Getting Idesy

With my back, my legs, my age,
I’ve slowed down.
I have not, however, stopped.

—————

When painful headlines arise,
I try to consider
the Greater Good.

—————-

Words, words, words, words.
Talk, talk, talk.
Scowling, sighing.
More words.
More talk.
Alas.

—————-

She held my hand,
simply, lightly, with trust.
I’ve since aimed
to deserve it.

——————

I read a lot but
I prefer listening to
a wiser person.

—————-

My dear friends:
I will love you forever.
But not a second longer.

—————-

I’ll care for myself
as the unique and special
person that I am.

—————-

Before I seek
magical solutions,
first I listen
to my heart.

——————

I do what I need to,
then what I could do,
then the impossible.

—————-

Today,
I am choosing
happiness,
ecstasy if
I can find some.

—————-

My poems are stories
which could be songs.
Now, wouldn’t that be
just a hoot?

——————

The disease is
fear, anger, hate.
The prescription is
a little faith.

——————-

New Thought movement
challenges those
with challenges.
God makes no mistakes.

One Direction

There is nothing I would change
about my life, even if I could,
because it all brought me to you.

There is nothing else I would build,
not from paper, stone or wood,
except that which created me and you.

There is nothing I could say,
even if I should,
that speaks louder than the me in you.

Current Events

When you see me cry,
it does not necessarily mean
I need help.
Sometimes, pure beauty
has that result in me,
the glory of innocents
who do not think
they should stop trying
to improve the world.
As for me,
whatever future
I am trying to shape
shapes me in return,
sometimes tearfully.
I will continue to
seek magic,
look for legerdemain,
believing the solutions we need
lie only in those realms.
But also, I will look
to my heart,
posit my soul’s purpose,
light another candle,
pen just one more plea.
